Identifying the risk of tooth decay
There are many factors that help determine the risk of tooth decay.
We learn the patient’s medical history regarding eating behaviour, brushing habits and use of fluoride. This provides us with important starting points.
The surface structure of the teeth (deep, fissured fossae and grooves), tooth crowding and condition of the fillings help determine the patient’s risk of tooth decay. The properties and composition of the saliva also are examined.
Our goal is to assess the risk of tooth decay for our young patients so that further treatment can be planned
