Desensitization
We understand desensitization to mean introducing a child slowly and step-by-step to a treatment.
Desensitization generally makes sense for children who tend to be anxious, reserved, cautious or very young. These children frequently find it difficult to cope with too many new instruments and situations if they are confronted with them too quickly.
However, if children approach a treatment gradually in closely controlled examinations and professional teeth brushing sessions, they often are cooperative when treated later, because they already are familiar with many of the instruments and noises.
